Pakiri Beach

Located approximately 14kms from Radcliffe Cottage are the beautiful white sands of unpopulated and pristine Pakiri Beach.

Pakiri Beach Horse Treks
  • Enjoy a relaxed 1-hour horse ride along Pakiri Beach or sign up for a full day or longer exploring beautiful Pakiri sites on horseback.
  • All rides travel along Pakiri Beach, through the dunes and for longer rides, up over farmland and pine forests.
Directions
  • Turn right out your driveway
  • After 1km turn right onto Pakiri Block Road
  • After 8.1kms go left onto Rahuikiri Road and continue about 5kms until you see Pakiri Horse Trekking on your right
  • Follow the signposts to the beach

 

Matakana

Matakana is approximately 30kms from Radcliffe Cottage. A lovely boutique village with markets, shopping, cinemas and great restaurants.

Matakana Farmers Market
  • Matakana Farmers Market is open every Saturday 8am until 1pm. There is a delicious range of local produce including vegetables, gourmet cheeses and chocolates and a variety of local craft.
Matakana Cinema
  • The beautiful Matakana Cinema is located in the Vintry complex next to Matakana Farmers Market in the village.

  • After 2.4kms turn left onto Tomarata Valley Road
  • After 8.5 kms turn left onto Whangaripo Valley Road
  • After 10.7kms turn right onto Matakana Valley Road
  • After approx 10kms, Matakana Cinema located in The Vintry complex in Matakana Village, entrance on Matakana Valley road near the central roundabout.

Leigh

The beautiful seaside village of Leigh is only approximately 20mins drive from Radcliffe Cottage. Home of renowned Fish and Chip shop voted best in New Zealand, Leigh is also a fantastic location for popular New Zealand music gigs at Sawmill Cafe.

  • Turn right out your driveway.
  • After 1km turn right onto Pakiri Block Road.
  • After 8.1km turn left onto Rahuikiri Road.
  • Continue down this road for 7kms until you reach Pakiri Road and turn left.
  • Continue for 11kms along Pakiri Road until you see the sign for Goat Island Marine Reserve and turn left into the park.
  • Continue to follow the sign posts to Leigh township.

 

Goat Island Marine Reserve

A local Marine Park, home to many beautiful species of marine wildlife. Explore via glass bottom boat or for a close-up encounter, enrol in a guided snorkel.

Approximately 25kms from Radcliffe Cottage.

Directions
  • Turn right out your driveway.
  • After 1km turn right onto Pakiri Block Road.
  • After 8.1km turn left onto Rahuikiri Road.
  • Continue down this road for 7kms until you reach Pakiri Road and turn left.
  • Continue for 11kms along Pakiri Road until you see the sign for Goat Island Marine Reserve and turn left into the park.

 

Tomarata Lakes

A picturesque lake located only 9kms from Radcliffe Cottage. Suitable for trout fishing, water sports or just as a relaxing lakeside retreat.

Directions
  • Turn right out your driveway
  • Go 4.8 kms on School Road until you reach Ocean View Road. Turn Right.
  • After 2.9kms go right onto Atkins Road.
  • Continue for 1km until you see the lake road on your right, which will take you down to the car park.

 

Bennett’s Chocolates of Mangawhai

In the beautiful coastal village of Mangawhai is the home of renowned chocolatiers, Clayton and Mary Bennett.

They create a wonderful range of chocolates from truffles, pralines and crème fraiche to oriental spiced chocolates.

Only 18kms from Radcliffe Cottage.

Directions
  • Turn right out your driveway and continue 4.8kms until you reach a T-intersection with Ocean View Road to your right and School Road continuing to your left. Take a left turn here.
  • Continue 2kms and turn right onto Mangawhai Road. After 10kms go left onto Insley Road. After 1km go left onto Moir Street and Bennetts Chocolates is located at number 52.
